Values, Mission and Vision

Our Principles and Values
  • Yalburu Yumba – Creating Happy Homes
We are committed to creating happy homes for our young people, where they feel safe, supported, and valued. Yalburu means “happy” in Birri Gubba language, and Yumba means “home” in Yugambeh language, reflecting our deep cultural roots.
  • Holistic Care
We care for the whole young person, focusing on their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing, ensuring every aspect of their life is supported.
  • Cultural Integration
Culture is woven into every part of our care. We provide genuine, not superficial, cultural experiences, always seeking new ways to enrich the cultural journeys of our young people.
  • Genuine Relationships
Building deep, meaningful relationships is at the heart of what we do. We believe in forming bonds that nurture trust and personal growth for both our staff and young people.
  • Honesty and Transparency
We are truthful in all our dealings, especially with the young people. We value honesty as the cornerstone of trust, knowing that even small lies can damage relationships.
  • Mutual Respect
Respect is a two-way street. We treat everyone with dignity, expecting the same in return, and believe that giving respect is the first step toward receiving it.
  • Adaptability and Resilience
In the face of rapid growth and complex challenges, we embrace adaptability and resilience. We remain flexible in our approach to ensure stability for the young people in our care.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide holistic, relationship-based care that empowers young people through cultural integration, strength-based support, and positive behavioral guidance. We aim to create environments where young people can thrive emotionally, mentally, physically, and culturally, building the resilience and skills they need for their future.

Our Vision

Our vision is to see young people leave our care as confident, independent individuals with a deep sense of identity, strong cultural connections, and the resilience to overcome life’s challenges. We aim to equip them with the tools, relationships, and skills to succeed beyond our support and contribute positively to their communities.

Today is National Sorry Day. We acknowledge and Today is National Sorry Day.

We acknowledge and recognise members of the Stolen Generation and the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities.

On this day in 1997, the Bringing Them Home report was tabled in Parliament and detailed the national inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families.

By acknowledging the past and moving forward together, we can learn from one another and pay our respects.
